The Castle can be traced to the 5th century when it was called Vicchio dei Longobardi, (village of the Longobards); in the Renaissance (1450 approx.) the name was changed. From its hill top the Castle dominates the Greve valley and was the first defence for Florence during its feuds with Siena. The Castle is also found in the archives of Leonardo da Vinci who was a guest of the estate when he painted the Mona Lisa. The famous academic Francesco Redi, prepared his renowned "Bacco in Toscana", (published in 1685) at the Castle. |

Holidays
at the Castle offer the rare experience of residing in a genuine historic
building. The "Formal Italian" style Garden enjoys unrivalled views
across Chianti hills as well as spectacular sunrises and sunsets. The
surrounding private estate offers invigorating walks and the possibility
of observing viticulture and olive production. The "pool with a view",
built on the side of the hill, allows guests to cool down during the
wonderfully warm Tuscan days. Secluded but not isolated, the Castle
is only 18 km from Florence and 4 km from Greve in Chianti.
